Why I like Girls Aloud

Girls Aloud are a British girl group who were formed in 2002. The members of the band are Sarah Harding, Kimberley Walsh, Cheryl Tweedy, Nadine Coyle and Nicola Roberts. In 2002 when Sugababes and Atomic Kitten were reigning the charts Popstars the Rivals was being shown on ITV1 on Saturday nights from 7th September 2002 to 22nd of December. The show was about a girl band and boy band who were rivals to claim the pop crown. Contestants on the show included Nadine Coyle, Cheryl Tweedy, Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts and Sarah Harding who all made it into the band. They became the winners of Popstars the Rivals and went to Christmas number one with Sound Of The Underground.


Sarah Harding born in November 1981 in Ascot but moved to Stockport with her mother when she was in her late teens. She went to Stockport college studying hair and beauty for one year. Before going into Girls Aloud Sarah worked as a nightclub promoter, a waitress at Pizza Hut, a van driver and a BT telephone operator. Kimberley Walsh born 1981 in Bradford west Yorkshire was an actress before Girls Aloud appearing in Stan the Man and BBC education programme Focus. Cheryl Tweedy born 1983 in Newcastle appeared in a British Gas advert and occasionally did dance recitals on Gimme 5 which she starred in as a child.


Nadine Coyle born in Derry Northern Ireland in 1985 while attending Thornhill college she auditioned for Irish Popstars in 2001 but was kicked out of the group for being underage but still kept in contact with Louis Walsh who encouraged her to audition for Popstars the Rivals. Nicola Roberts was born in October 1985 in Lincolnshire but was raised Runcorn, Cheshire she performed well at school with 9 GCSES.


What albums they have released Girls Aloud have released 5 albums such as Sound of the Underground, Chemistry and the number one album Out Of Control and 2 compilation albums and 23 singles such as The Promise, Love Machine and Beautiful Cause You Love Me.


The band have sold 4.3 million singles and 4 million albums in the United Kingdom alone. Cheryl has released four solo albums whereas Nadine, Kimberley and Nicola have released one album each. Nicola Roberts recently won The Masked Singer UK. Sarah won Celebrity Big Brother in 2017 beating Amelia Lily. Nadine Coyle went on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2019 Kimberley Walsh appeared on strictly come dancing in 2012. Cheryl Nadine and Kimberley are all mothers: Nadine has one daughter born 2014, Cheryl has one son born 2017 and Kimberley has two sons born 2014 and 2018.


Where are they now

Kimberley has since starred in the West End such as Shrek, Elf and recently Sleepless in Seattle and has done some presenting work

and has a kids clothing line. She married her long-time partner Justin Scott in 2016 and the couple have two sons named Bobby and Cole. Sarah Harding went on to act she had a brief part in the second St Trinions and appeared in Coronation Street in 2015. In 2016 she stared in the musical Ghost but was replaced after injuries she sustained from The Jump. Later that year she released a single called Threads and released an EP of the same name. In 2017 she won Celebrity Big Brother and gave her prize money to Haig Housing Trust. As of 2020 Sarah Harding is currently having a time out from fame.


Cheryl went on to have a successful solo career with two number one albums and 5 number one singles her last record was released in 2018. From 2006 to 2010 she was married to footballer Ashley Cole, she married a second time in 2014 to French restaurateur Jean Bernard Fernandez but split in 2016 and was granted a decree nisi. She had a two-year relationship with One Direction's Liam Payne which in 2017 gave birth to her son Bear Grey Payne. Between 2008 to 2014 she was a judge on the UK X Factor and was recently a judge on the greatest dancer. Nadine Coyle moved to Los Angeles in 2007 and opened up a bar called Nadine’s Irish Mist which closed down in 2017 but in 2010 she released her solo album Insatiable which she made a deal with Tesco to sell the album and released a single of the same name which she wrote with Guy Chambers .


In 2014 she became a mother to her daughter Anaya, she released a new single called go to work in 2017 and since released a couple of more songs such as Fool for love and All That I Know which she released in January this year. Nicola Roberts released her solo album in 2011 titled Cinderella Eyes and released 3 singles from the album. In 2007 she released a make-up range called Dainty Doll. Over the couple years she wrote for other singers and recently won The Masked Singer UK as Queen Bee. And she is currently in the West End production City Of Angels.

What people don’t know about them. All the members of girls aloud are all Northern with Nadine being from Northern Ireland.

There are two pressings of their debut album Sound Of The Underground. Polydor Records were considering dropping them but it did not happen. Their songwriters were Brian Higgins and Miranda Cooper who wrote all their songs from the beginning Girls Aloud have one book called Dreams That Glitter that was released in 2007.


What I like about Girls Aloud


What I love about Girls Aloud is that their songs make me get up and dance and always bring a smile to my face. My favourite album from them is Chemistry as it is a really uplifting album and the songs are amazing. My favourite singles are Long Hot Summer, The Promise, Love Machine , Beautiful Cause You Love Me and Call The Shots.
