Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The most advanced category of AI is systems that can form thoughts and understanding about themselves. This type of AI can not be replicated in the real world at the moment.We see this type in entertainment such as in books, games and film. These are some examples of advanced AI that have self-awareness;

In the game Detroit: become human the characters look and sound like humans but they are androids and they have some self-awareness when they become deviant. They have the freedom to do anything that they want to do. One of the differences that the androids have is that they have “blue blood” called Thirium 310, all non-deviant androids have a LED on their right temple.

Blade Runner is about a character called Deckard that “retires” androids that have done things illegally. The androids are sentient and they look like humans and its hard to distinguish between the two. The androids may not know that they are androids as they had been implanted with false memories. They are made not born.



The way that we see AI in the entertainment industry is very sci-fi in general as in the real world the AI development is very different and may not get to the stage that the entertainment industry has been portraying for many years. The attitude about AI in the media is positive but can be improved as some of the things in films and games such as androids dying may never happen.
