A Small Loan of a Million Lies

#iDare to... to never follow someone just as corrupt as Trump

Over the years, even before he was President, Trump has said and done questionable and awful things which somehow still got him in the White House. From the promises he made leading up to his presidency to the Capitol riot attack; this article will be highlighting some of the things Trump has got away with.

To start off, his famous catchphrase “a small loan of a million dollars” which branded him a self-made billionaire. In fact, he was never self-made. In 2018, an investigation found that Trump received $413 million from his father’s real estate businesses. Since he was a toddler, Trump has been receiving $200,000 every year. The transference of the money was done to avoid taxes, some of the schemes were outright fraudulent.

Before 2019, nearly 20 women came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against Trump. Then in June 2019, there was explicitly an accusation of rape against Trump. Columnist E. Jean Carrol said Trump raped her in the late 1990s in a dressing room. Everything was denied by Trump with even Carroll waiting for a DNA sample from him to prove her charges.

During his time as President, Trump has limited civil rights for LGBTQ+ Americans:

  • Transgender people will be refused from health care and homeless shelters. They were also banned from the military.
  • Proposed a rule that would allow child welfare organisations that receive taxpayer funds to deny service to LGBTQ+ parents.
  • Rolled back the Obama-era guidance that allowed transgender students to use the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity.
  • Federal contractors were allowed to deny employment for LGBTQ+ under the guise of religious freedom.

One of his promises was to protect health insurance coverage which wasn’t fulfilled. This included patients with pre-existing conditions, even as he waged a year-long campaign against the Affordable Care Act during the coronavirus pandemic. There were several attempts to repel the ACA through Congress, but they all failed, so he has rolled back a series of regulations meant to protect consumers by ensuring health insurance plans were compliant. This has led to patients having short-term plans that do not offer the best coverage.

A really cruel and inhumane law Trump put in place was along with the ban on visitors from Muslim countries which was already bad enough, but at the border, children would be taken away from their parents and put in cages until that child is put into foster care. The parents or guardians will also be prosecuted and held in federal jails or deported. This was the Child Separation Policy. This has led to hundreds of children being unable to be reunited with their parents because there was no system in place for the children to be returned to their parents. As of October 2020, parents of 545 children are still not found.

Even before there was anything about COVID, Trump fired the pandemic response unit that the Obama Administration had put in place for Ebola, cut funding to the CDC and shut down research labs which were set up as early-warning units in 60 countries. Once there was a case discovered in America, Trump said, “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be fine”. For the first few months, Trump has constantly played down the virus and just called it a flu. He felt really confident and not concerned when there were nearly 200 cases and over 10 deaths. For whatever reason, when the death toll passed 100,000, Trump terminated the relationship between the US and the World Health Organisation. Throughout the entire process, Trump has continuously blamed China and made fun of people wearing masks, even suggesting injecting disinfectant and exposing patients to UV light would help treat the virus. After him and the First Lady tested positive for COVID on the 2nd of October 2020, Trump still wasn’t taking the situation seriously. Still not wanting to put the US in a lockdown and was confident that 20 million people will be given their first shot by the end of 2020 – but only 11 million were given their first shot.

The storming of the Capitol building was a disgraceful event that got Trump impeached. On December 19th, 2020, Trump announced the January 6th rally following the victory of new President Joe Biden, claiming there were allegations of vote fraud. After making a speech, Trump encouraged his followers to march to the Capitol, he tweeted, “We’re going to try and give them [Republicans] the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country”. It was a deadly tantrum from the followers who stormed the Capitol which Trump didn’t even try to stop. After the riot ended, five people died, and more than 140 people were injured.

The last awful thing Trump has done his entire life and is still doing that I will be covering, well Trump will be covering, is that he uses face make-up. Trump uses Switzerland’s Bronx Colors concealer by slathering two full containers on his face. His housekeepers would have to regularly bring him new shirts because of the rust-coloured stains on his collars. That’s why he’s so orange.
